Intuitive Machines, a leading space exploration, infrastructure, and services company, has announced the receipt of a significant contract from NASA. This Near Space Network (NSN) contract includes communication and navigation services for missions in the near space region, extending from Earth’s surface to beyond the Moon.

The Subcategory 2.2 Geostationary Orbit to Cislunar Relay Services contract is a new Firm-Fixed-Price, Multiple Award, Indefinite-Delivery/Indefinite-Quantity (IDIQ) Task Order Contract. It features a base period of five years with an additional five-year option period, boasting a maximum potential value of $4.82 billion. The base ordering period began on October 1, 2024, running through September 30, 2029, while the option period could extend the contract through September 30, 2034.

Intuitive Machines' CEO, Steve Altemus, expressed enthusiasm about the contract, highlighting the company's commitment to space communications and navigation. He also emphasized the partnership with NASA to support the Artemis campaign and advance lunar economy initiatives.

A key aspect of this contract is the introduction of Intuitive Machines' lunar satellite constellation, which aligns with the company's strategic vision to commercialize lunar activities. This constellation will enhance data and transmission services, support autonomous operations, and contribute to building a robust infrastructure in line with Intuitive Machines' objectives to commercialize a celestial body.

The contract entails deploying lunar relay satellites and providing essential communication and navigation services to support NASA's Artemis campaign, with the ultimate goal of establishing a sustainable presence on the Moon.
