Interview with Jon Clarke- President of the Mars Society Australia

In this very special focus on Mars, I got a chance to speak with Jon Clarke the President of the Mars Society Australia.

Yep. You heard right.

We have our very own Mars society, unique to Australia linked to the larger Mars Society and part of a world-wide group of associations - all founded by Robert Zubrin in 1997. The Mars Society has links to almost every space agency in the world and boasts one of the most iconic members - Elon Musk.

In this very broad-ranging and eye-opening interview with Jon, I found out:

  • How a Jon grew up in thee Apollo era, dreamt of being an astronomer and due to lacking maths skills became a geologist but still became the president of the Mars Society Australia

  • How the Mars Society started and how it grew to be a global-wide group

  • We explore the fascination behind the red planet and how it has haunted our dreams for centuries

  • We also look how at robotic exploration in the 20th Century has provided us with even more reasons to go to Mars rather than less

  • We then manage to go more in-depth into what everyday Australians and the Mars Society Australia are doing to further research into the red planet.
